You have a 2l bottle of Coke(or whatever), you want a drink & leave the rest for later. Of course, the moment you unscrew the top, Psssht, you've let the genie out of the bottle. It can only get worse from now on. You This procedure should work for any fizzy soft drink, but for simplicity, I shall be referring to coke as in Coca-cola® for the rest of this piece.Cool the soda down so that it's very cold. It's hard to gauge, but I find that a 2l bottle placed in a freezer at -18°C for two hours is about optimum. In my experience, this is the normal temperature of a proper chest or larder freezer. It's a bit of an art - it's easy to forget about it, but two hours give or take is usually fine. There are obvious dangers in leaving it in the freezer for too long - but the consequences aren't normally that bad. In my experience the worst that has happened (and it happens often enough) is that I forget about it and the coke freezes solid. This is not a big deal, and as long as the bottle is not opened, and allowed to thaw (preferably* in a fridge), then there is no real harm done. However, I have found that Diet Coke (& therefore perhaps other diet drinks?) can explode if left for a long time resulting in no diet coke and a very cold messy freezer that is a right pain to clean out. Prepare some containers for filling with the decanted soda (just wash them in warm water & detergent and rinse properly). -You can use 4 x 500ml bottles. Carefully pour the soda from the 2l bottle into the containers. Try and do this as quickly as you can, but without spilling or adgitating the liquid too much, sealing each container as you go. Refrigerate and enjoy at your leisure. Further question:
