organiSIM.com Mortgage

Like it or loathe it, I'll have to deal with several professions - Solicitors, Estate Agents, Banks and Mortgage brokers. We've settled with London & Country for our mortgage broker as they seem to have a good reputation.

Solicitors:

I'm not happy with our current solicitor - at best they could be described as satisfactory. The Location, Location, Location folk suggest very strongly that you need a good solicitor that is proactive & is happy to do business with email etc - as opposed to people who don't do anything until explicitly instructed to... if something hasn't been done - they won't chase it - this is a bad thing.

  • Murphy & O'Rawe - these folk never seem to be available when I ring (at lunchtime - not a good sign to me.

Getting quotes for solicitors depends on the value of the house - so they can charge appropriately - associated fees like stamp duty (1% of house transaction value), land registry costs (up to £400), searches (£50-£80 per person)....
