DIY projector project - organisim.com

The aim is to construct a projector using a standard office overhead projector (OHP) and using an old(?) LCD/TFT monitor as seen on Tom's hardware.

  • OHP
  • LCD
  • power
  • cooling
  • screen

Essentially, the monitor should be disassembled so that the thin LCD screen part (without cold-cathode backlight) should sit on top of the OHP, with a signal fed into it and the image should be projected onto a screen/wall.

Progress so far

I have obtained an OHP and gutted it of all its internals. I have replaced the 250W transformer, bulb and internal electronics with 4 x 100W equivalency (4 x 22W) low energy bulbs making it a more power friendly and heat friendly - possibly eliminating the need for cooling (fans).
I've had limited success with my first TFT monitor. I recently reassembled it so it almost works now - I kept all the bits, but seem to have mislaid the screws.
I've aquired another monitor courtesy of ebay for £20.50 - a bargain! - a NEC LA-1522 with a faulty backlight (not a problem) but without a PSU (possible problem -> possible solution). Details to disassemble NEC 1510V are available on the preceding link :). Potential results of the project.
