Xbox PVR project- organiSIM.comWhat I want is basically something like a TiVo, but using my existing resources. I have:
Another Challenge is the fact that I have currently 4 xboxes in my charge: One of my prime weaknesses is that I'm rubbish at Linux. I recognise that I'm gonna have to learn some if I'm going to use the Gentoox Media Center (installation help here)(FAQ). A lot of resources here. A seperate related issue - My sister's ipod has her songs on it, but has no hdd space left. We got hera 200GB external drive, but unless the poweringon order is done properly, things can mess up & they have. I need to restore the music from the ipod back to the mac. VNCing to a mac via SHH: (from http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36104&page=1) There's a much easier way than that. Download this implementation of VNC (which is the best): http://www.redstonesoftware.com/vnc.html Put it in your applications directory. Run it once and set your passwords and other options. Then you can run it remotely by SSH'ing in and doing: open /Applications/OSXvnc Wade home theatre PC guide using linux

what has to say on the subject.
In addition, all the above should ideally collect together into a media room - with projector & amp. However, on a slightly smaller scale, this room will be 10' wide by 12' long, with the 28" (wide) TV in the centre at one end + Sony amp, XBMCed xbox, xbox 360 + 'net access thanks to wireless bridge and router. Another dream might be that all my digital content be on some sort of RAM storage (big mutha HDDs - content converted using this?) to be served in series on several "channels" pseudo-randomly (ie all sit-coms would be played in on one or more channels, one after the other to a pre-determined random order - like TV listings...) - so one could flip in & out of the order.... you could look at the listings & note that there's something worth watching on in 20mins...
Don't see this as me giving up on the idea, but I've found a PVR by Digifusion (Fvrt90) that will be very handy while I get the main project sorted. Below are a couple of links to forums on hacking the fvrt90: |
